Unit 2: Plagerism

1: This does not need to be corrected because it is an anecdote.

2: This is a quote from the Declaration of the United States and it does need to be quoted with a citation.

3: When using factual evidence you need to prove the source so yes it needs to be changed.

4: The statement has paraphrased a point from the excerpt and so by giving credit to King this is okay.

5: When changing words from a piece of writing, the proper way is bracket the words you switch. this could more properly be cited.

6: The writer has not properly shown from where the quote was taken from.

7: This is close but because it is a quote, it needs quotation marks to give her full credit.

8: There is no proof of why we are given this freedom without citing a source.

In this day in age, I have been taught a lot about the awareness of plagiarism, but the biggest point that I learned about it this week was that when i write an essay it is important to have work cited in the essay and in a bibliography. It is not an option of one or the other, it is both.

  1. Hi, Brian:

You are developing an understanding of plagiarism and how to avoid it. There are many details and it can be difficult to keep track of it all. If you take good notes as you research, you should have all the elements you need for citing and creating a bibliography. It's always okay to ask for help and doublecheck with a manual, there are so many exceptions.

    Cheers,
    Andrea
